Safe Sitter Class

Junior high students, in grades 6-8 for the 2026-2027 school year, are invited to attend Safe Sitter® training. This nationally recognized program equips students with essential life and safety skills including babysitting basics, childcare techniques, first aid, safety and injury prevention, behavior management, and emergency response. Participants will also learn valuable communication, decision-making, and leadership skills that help them become confident, responsible, and prepared caregivers.

Safe Sitter® is designed to help young teens build confidence, stay safe when home alone, and be prepared to care for younger children. Because the training relies on interactive games, group discussions, and hands-on activities, a minimum of five participants is needed to ensure students can fully engage in the program as designed. Enrollment is limited to 10 participants, and registration will close on Friday, June 19. If fewer than five students register, families will be notified by June 23 if the class must be canceled.

The class is FREE and will be taught by the Lawrence County School Health Coordinator — Dr. Meagan Shipley.  Lunch will be provided by the library; please notify library staff of any food allergies/restrictions and medical conditions. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and explore the library afterwards!
