Mitchell Community Public Library is excited to announce an upcoming upgrade to our library circulation system!
Beginning January 5, 2027, Mitchell Community Public Library will transition from the Evergreen Indiana system to our new circulation system, APOLLO.
This decision was made after careful consideration of several factors. We believe this upgrade will allow us to offer additional services and resources to better serve our community.
New Features and Services
With APOLLO, we look forward to introducing several new features, including:
- Online study room and event registration
- The ability to subscribe to updates about new books from your favorite authors
- Two-way text messaging communication
- A new and improved library catalog
- Additional services and resources in the future
Our new catalog will make it easier to discover materials and resources available at Mitchell Community Public Library. Patrons will also continue to have the ability to request items that may be borrowed from other libraries or purchased and added to our collection.
Important Dates and Changes for Library Patrons
As we prepare for this transition, please review the following changes to borrowing privileges, library cards, and services.
Currently
- Only Mitchell and Reciprocal (Blue) cardholders can place holds on Mitchell Library items and request items from other libraries.
- Other Evergreen Library cardholders may still visit Mitchell Community Public Library and check out items using their Evergreen cards.
Beginning November 15, 2026
- Mitchell and Reciprocal (Blue) cardholders will only be able to place holds on items owned by Mitchell Community Public Library.
- Requests for items not available at Mitchell Library may be made with library staff.
Beginning January 5, 2027
- New library cards: New library cards will be issued as patrons visit the library in the new year. Please bring a photo ID to update your account.
- Reciprocal borrowing for nonresidents: Individuals living outside Mitchell may apply for Reciprocal library cards, if eligible.
- Reciprocal borrowing for Mitchell residents: Mitchell residents may apply for Reciprocal cards at neighboring libraries, if eligible.
- Returning borrowed materials: Only items borrowed from Mitchell Community Public Library may be returned to Mitchell Library. We will no longer be able to accept returns of items borrowed while visiting other libraries.
- Libby and Hoopla: There will be no changes to Libby or Hoopla services, although patrons may be asked to log in again.
Reciprocal borrowing eligibility will be determined in January. Library staff will be able to provide eligibility information based on agreements established by participating libraries.
Thank You for Your Patience and Support
We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this transition. We also ask that you continue to treat our library staff with kindness as they learn the new system and work to support your needs.
The Library Director and Board of Trustees made this decision with the goal of providing the best possible services, expanding access to resources, and remaining responsible stewards of your tax dollars.
